Picked these beautiful tomatoes from the garden just this morning! Would have enough to sell at market on Saturday if …. if only I could figure out what to do about the stinkbugs and/or tomato fruit worms eating almost all of our tomatoes!!! Ack!! What a year for tomatoes … it has been quite a trial so far.
I am researching it tonight. We WILL figure out how to get rid of these pests and have tomatoes to harvest SOON!
It’s exciting to walk around and see how much is rapidly GROWING! Soon we will have:
Cucumbers (okay, this is a bad picture … there really is a cucumber in there, just look in the shadows!)
Green beans (behind the cucumbers!)
This tomato happens to be a Brandywine – the KING of heirloom tomatoes!
Cherokee Purple tomatoes … even BETTER than Brandywines (I know, who thought THAT was possible?!)
Fresh cut lavender. Hopefully we will have enough of a harvest this week to make it to market on Saturday!
We absolutely LIVED off this pizza last summer! SO delicious … and with my recipe, SO easy!
I buy the pre-made, whole wheat pizza crust at the store … the kind that come two in a package. Brush olive oil over the crust and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Top with LOTS of local heirloom tomatoes, fresh, torn basil leaves, fresh mozzarella (I used a combination of fresh and packaged mozz. here, as I didn’t have quite enough of the fresh), and seasonings (garlic, salt, pepper, etc.)
Bake until cheese is melted.
Experiment with this using different heirloom tomatoes for TOTALLY different tastes. I used Amana Orange here, which I just canNOT get enough of. It was also delicious with Mortgage Lifters and Cherokee Purples.
